LONDON – March 5, 2020 – Spafax was named a finalist in the 2020 Crystal Cabin Awards for its IFEC data analytics platform, IQ™. Spafax is among the 24 finalists chosen from 105 short-listed entries across 21 countries.

The annual Crystal Cabin Award is presented in eight categories: “Cabin Concepts,” “Cabin Systems,” “IFEC,” “Greener Cabin, Health, Safety and Environment,” “Material & Components,” “Passenger Comfort Hardware,” “University,” and “Visionary Concepts.” Within the IFEC category, Spafax is running alongside Safran Passenger Solutions’ RAVE Bluetooth solution and JetBlue’s Multi-Screen Experience.

The platform, currently launched with Air Canada, offers a number of insights on content performance, enabling airlines to deliver an enhanced customer experience that offers passengers the best in in-flight entertainment (IFE). For example, the platform answers the following questions on content performance:

  • Which entertainment has the highest and lowest cost per view?

  • Which content performs best on my key routes?

  • How do my World Cinema titles perform on key routes and markets?

IQ™ is the first product of its kind to pull multiple data sets into one central platform and give airlines a global view of their passenger engagement. The platform delivers four dashboards across movie and TV content and contains over 30 data visualisations that provide in-depth insight into IFE content consumption.

The nomination not only reflects our understanding of the industry and airline demand for data-led content strategy but it also validates the hard work and creativity of our extraordinary team.
— Tony Taverner, CTO, Spafax

Alongside the entertainment insights, Spafax created a bespoke ‘IQ™ Score’ which uses Simplified Bayesian methodology to compare view performance of a title against the average views of similar titles. This can be used for performance KPIs, decision-making and when negotiating deals with distributors. Some of the elements used within the IQ™ score include:

  1. Discovery Effort (per GUI Category)

  2. Month of Exhibition

  3. Cabin Class

  4. Route

  5. Calendar Month

  6. GUI Categories

  7. Language

Tony Taverner, Chief Technology Officer at Spafax said:

“The annual Crystal Cabin Award is the only international award for excellence in aircraft interior innovation and we are honored to be among this select group. The nomination not only reflects our understanding of the industry and airline demand for data-led content strategy but it also validates the hard work and creativity of our extraordinary team."

The 24 finalists will present their entries to the 27 members of the international expert jury. Winners will be announced within the next six to eight weeks.
